How to Play

Open a Mini, Midi, or Maxi and start immediately. Play it solo, or invite one person into the same private crossword without asking them to install anything or make an account.

Choose a puzzle

Mini is the shortest grid, Midi is 9×9, and Maxi is 13×13. Random gives you another puzzle from the chosen size when one is available. Daily selects the dated UTC puzzle for that size. Random and new Daily dates draw only from the active direct-clued catalogue; retired generator-v2 puzzles and quarantined generator-v2.1 candidates are unavailable. Each Daily route returns the same puzzle for everyone on that UTC date.

Play solo or invite one person

Select any white square and enter letters. To solve together, choose Invite, then send the private link using your preferred messaging app. Your guest opens that link in a browser and joins the same grid without an account. A room is for two players, not a public lobby.

Classic Crossword rules

Solve a Daily or Random crossword on your own, or invite one person into the same private grid.

  1. Choose a crossword. Pick Daily or Random, then choose Mini, Midi, or Maxi.
  2. Enter letters. Select a square or clue and type with a physical or on-screen keyboard.
  3. Change direction. At a crossing, choose Across or Down to change the active clue.
  4. Ask for help. Check marks mistakes without giving answers. Reveal fills the active clue only after you confirm.
  5. Solve together. Invite one person to a private Classic room where both players share every clue and the same grid.
  6. Finish your way. Complete the crossword, share the result, play another, or rematch where those actions are available.

Split Clues rules

One player receives Across, the other receives Down, and both fill one shared private crossword.

  1. Divide the clues. The host receives Across and the guest receives Down.
  2. Keep your direction. Each player sees only the clue text assigned to them.
  3. Share the grid. Both players fill the same crossword and see every entered letter.
  4. Meet at crossings. A crossing belongs to both directions and either player may edit it.
  5. Use help fairly. Check applies to your clues, and Reveal applies only to your active clue after confirmation.
  6. Complete together. The server confirms the full shared crossword before the room is complete.
  7. Swap for a rematch. A rematch keeps both players in the room and swaps Across and Down.

Try another two-player mode

Split Clues gives Across to the host and Down to the guest on one shared grid. Crossword Race gives both players the same crossword on separate private grids, with only aggregate progress shared before a correct finish.

Progress, refresh, and reset behavior

Solo entries are saved in this browser for 30 days and restored only when the same public puzzle version is still available. The homepage offers a Continue link after meaningful progress; completing a puzzle clears that saved entry. On Random play, Skip starts another same-size puzzle without carrying letters across. In a private room, this browser stores a room member key locally so it can attempt to recover the shared room after refresh while that room remains available.

If a private link is unavailable

Retry once in the same browser. If the room is missing, full, or temporarily unavailable, start a fresh solo puzzle or ask the host to create a new invite. Do not post private room links publicly.

Accessibility and help

The grid supports keyboard movement, labelled cells, clue selection, and reduced-motion preferences. Browser-engine tests are not a claim of every physical device or assistive technology. If a control or puzzle creates a barrier, email privacy@kreydlabs.com and describe the public page, browser, and problem without sending a private room link or entered letters.
